Cat Sith (plural: Cait-Sith), is a race of cat-like fairies that well-known in Celtic mythology and Irish folklore. A tribe of them made Doras Hill as their home and becomes one of most affluential fairies in the process, the other being Coin-Sith tribe of Doras Hill.
Description[]
Cait-Sith appear as cat-like creatures slightly larger than their mundane counterparts distinguished by their moss green fur similar to Coin-Sith. They have two forms; normal quadrupedal form akin to mundane cats and anthropomorphic one clad in clothing similar to humans' and even possess primate-like paws complete with opposable thumbs. While they can walk with rear legs like humans do in latter form, Caith-Sith can run all-fours for faster mobility.
Abilities[]
In addition of intelligence comparable to humans' which enable them to converse in human tongues and switching between base quadrupedal and semi-humanoid form, Cait-Sith can sense magic within individuals thus able to tell whether they receive magical training like witches and wizards do. They also possess cat-related abilities (enhanced senses, speed, agility, flexibility, leap, sharp paws) superior than those of their mundane counterparts.
Trivia[]
- In myths, Cait-Sith are said to possess magical abilities of their own, such as casting blessings or curses to those who deserved it. Some suggested that they can snatch a person's soul before it was claimed by the gods by passing over a corpse before burial, thus Fèill Fhadalach (Late Wake) were performed night and day to keep them away from a corpse before burial. Another suggested that they are magically disguised witches that could transform voluntarily into their cat forms and back nine times and if one of them chose to go back into their cat form for the ninth time, they would remain a cat for the rest of their lives. It is believed by some that this is how the idea of a cat having nine lives originated.
