The interschool broom race begins. However, Akko is designated as a final relief although she can not fly on a broom. Desperate, she hopes to get lucky bringing the Shiny Rod. While the race takes unforeseen magic turns on the part of the contestants, Akko refuses to hand it over because she hopes to return it to Chariot, but the other competitor harasses her until she takes the Rod and knocks her down, only to be saved by Diana at the last moments.

Summary[]

Against all odds, the interschool broom race begins at its earnest with Wangari introduces two competing teams; Luna Nova being represented by Amanda, Constanze, and Jasminka with Akko as their anchor and the rival school with Miraj. Akko brings Shiny Rod with her in hopes of improving her odds a little bit, which draws the attention of Miraj whom she finds resembles Chariot somewhat. Headmistress Holbrooke and Finnelan sighed in dismay over the rival school professor's firm decision that already final.

Lotte, Sucy, Hannah, and Barbara have returned to Luna Nova grounds, but they're too late in curing Diana in time before the race begins. It doesn't take long for them to learn that Akko becomes Luna Nova's designated anchor thus prompting four witches to brew the medicine for the Cavendish as soon as possible. As they do, Jasminka passed her baton to Constanze with little effort thanks to the rival school's first flyer, Foln, sleeping in the middle of the already started interschool broom race. After a rude awakening from flabbergasted Nelson, she managed to quickly close the gap via. consecutive bursts of her broom and pass her baton to the second flyer, Aul though she already late by seconds that the latter gives her a death threat for it while passing their baton. As Ursula appears with a tray of drinks for Finnelan, Nelson, and the rival school professor while the three remarking their respective team's abilities, she notices that there's something familiar in their guest upon a closer look.

Subsequent competitors of the interschool broom race fare much better as they outpace one another with less than orthodox methods. When Aul has her summoned faeries dismantling Constanze's mechanized broom out of being irritated by its noise, the German mechanic responds by firing her grappling hook gun to anchor herself onto the former's broom so as to swing herself towards Amanda's side and pass her baton to the Irish-American. As if such feat was amazing enough, Joanna discovered through the results of her camera that Constanze brought three Wisdom Fairies with her so she can have them constructing a gadget in the matter of seconds to counter worst-case scenarios and even prepared their respective sweet as the rewards to the boot. As soon as it's Amanda's turn to go on the other hand, the third flyer unexpectedly tosses her broom at the Irish-American seemingly out of frustration, much to her, Wangari, Joanna, and Kimberly's shock and confusion. It takes a moment or two for them to realize that the third flyer is in fact, magically splits her broom into smaller parts that then float in the air as sort of platform for her to quickly dash through with the attack only serves as the element of distraction, prompting Amanda to make haste for Akko's position.

Akko finds herself on the edge as Amanda and the rival school's third player are closing in for their position before being snapped from her stupor by Miraj who reveals herself to be a fellow Shiny Chariot fan, citing her familiarity with Shiny Rod in the Japanese witch-in-training's hands. Delighted at first, Akko begins to suspect that the rival school's anchor is up to no good when the latter ominously asks her Shiny Rod in exchange of teaching the Japanese witch-in-training her broom flight techniques. Meanwhile, Lotte and Sucy have managed to cure Diana of her burning sickness thanks to the completed medicine, much to Hannah and Barbara's joy. Diana's relief is soon cut short upon being updated about the interschool broom race and Akko's unexpected participation in it. Fearing the worst, Diana makes haste to dress up and take off with her broom despite recently healed with Hannah and Barbara closely follow. Hilariously, as Lotte and Sucy wonder whether the Cavendish will be fine, Lukić shows up with ingredients for the medicine to cure burning sickness, unaware that she already too late due to her best student (Sucy) already done her a favor.

Back to the race, Miraj, unamused by Akko's insistence that she wanted to return Shiny Rod to her idol someday, begins to intimidate the Japanese witch-in-training that she falls off the ledge, all while taking the staff with her. Amanda makes haste to save her friend, but she is unfortunately not fast enough due to still too far away. Luckily, Diana arrived in time to catch the Japanese witch-in-training at the last moments...

Trivia[]

  • Considering Akko manages to perform Metamorphosis Magic with greater success for the first time albeit the end result being a winged elephant during the final part of the manga's four-parter finale, the whole event from Annabel Crème the 12th's sudden visit to Luna Nova during which Lotte learns Barbara's passion for Night Fall series to Akko and Diana winning the interschool broom race that secretly orchestrated by Woodward suggestively take place sometime between "Bee Commotion" and two-parter first cour finale ("What You Will" and "Samhain Magic").
    • The four-parter finale, however, had a contradicting point where Akko learned about the Second Word of the Seven Words of Arcturus when consulting with Ursula about Luna Nova's future in facing the upcoming interschool broom race as opposed of asking whether she and Shiny Chariot are classmates during their school days unaware that they are the same person as shown in "Blue Moon". This in turn, indicated the events of said episode and two-parter first cour finale will be played differently had the manga continued just like its first and second chapters with "A New Beginning" and fifth and sixth chapter with "Luna Nova and the White Dragon".
