Summary[]
The chapter begins with the beginning of the long awaited interschool competition between Luna Nova and Sorbates Academy which Akko looks forward to. To her chagrin, both Diana and Yūto dismiss the brunette to be lucky because she technically lacked necessary skills for it (the latter finds Akko's participation will risk Luna Nova's reputation while Yūto knows better the brunette is in it under special considerations rather than properly passed the test). Fortunately for Akko, Lotte and Sucy have prepared a present box and special sweets to help her keep up with others.
The first of three tests of interschool competition between Luna Nova and Sorbates Academy is a written test where participants must answer all 100 questions within 30 minutes and ensure they answer most, if not all of them right before moving on. To Akko's shock, it won't be like typical written test she familiar with because her fellow competitors are allowed to use magic to finish their answer sheets at faster pace among other permitted methods as Ursula points out (ex. Diana and Yūto conjured books related for questions in their respective sheet). Deciding to finish hers at her own pace, the disgruntled Akko is stunned upon finding the 100th question to be deceptive one for seemingly containing children's crude drawings that she initially wondered whether there was a mistake. Ursula argued it to be not the case because everyone else are stuck on it also. Lotte and Sucy's cheering from the audience's seats nearby reminds Akko of things they prepared for her in order to even her odds against her fellow competitors and that it's time to put them to good use. Opening the gift box first, Akko finds a telepathic fairy, cartoonish pixie-like magical construct one can control via. special flower it paired with. Through such sophisticated magic item, Lotte and Sucy assist Akko in answering the final question which revolves secret alchemical codes the latter recognizes, allowing her to pass the test at last. Diana and Yūto similarly succeed, much to the joy of Luna Nova students who idolized them and ire of latter's ambitious fellow Sorbates students.
The next level of the interschool competition is racing for 6 fruits placed on top of Luna Nova's spire without using magic broom thus only those who managed to claim theirs that can proceed. To Akko's chagrin, every single one of her fellow competitors fly toward their destination with other methods before being reminded by Sucy via. her telepathic fairy that she can still catch up. Consuming one of special candies which Sucy introduces as Dragees, Akko attains rabbit-like features such as white fur, long ears, paw-like hands, and importantly, robust leg muscles for quick sprint and super jumps that allows her to reach the startled Yūto. The transformation turns out only lasts for one minute prompting her to eat another which partially turns her into a mouse and latching up onto the young wizard to maintain an advantage over their rivals, further surprising him.
With Yūto in her grasp, Akko demands him some explanation about how and why he changed so much since the last time they met. Unfortunately for the two, this provides an opportunity for Yūto's jealous fellow Sorbates Academy students to restrain the two with enchanted vines all while insulting them before moving on. Akko attempts to undo the vines with Light Magic only for more of them holding her than ones she disintegrated. The defeated Yūto cynically states to the brunette that in competitions, one must think for themselves and therefore not to bother helping others who possibly take advantage of one's kindness. Akko of course, rejects such selfish principle, rightfully argues that participating in fair and square manner regardless of the outcome, even if it includes taking time helping others in need along the way, is preferable. To Yūto's chagrin, Diana, who seemingly leaves the two to their predicament at first, actually does exactly just that; she distances herself from the vines knowing they will entrap anyone who gets too close in order to safely undo their enchantments. Begrudgingly thanking Luna Nova's top student for her unexpected assistance, Yūto magically constructs a floating raft made of leftover branches for them quickly continue their test.
