Overview[]

Summary[]

Picking up from where the previous chapter left off, the race for Midnight Crown escalates when Yūto's rivals turn against each other, startling Akko and Yūto as much as the newly arrived Diana. Explaining to Akko that their fellow Luna Nova contestant was rendered unconscious by the fumes from their starting biome and reminding her about competition at hand, Diana proceeds to admonish one of Yūto's rivals for breaking the rules further. But the agitated Sorbates Academy bully continues his assault on the evasive Cavendish to no avail, shattering the goddess' statue in the process. To everyone's horror, his recklessness unveils one last obstacle neither of them considered; a titanic apparition resembling a witch with gigantic replica of the Crown around her wide-brimmed hat. The apparition is seemingly immune to magic and easily tosses Akko aside towards Yūto's rivals, much to their anger that they retaliate against her with Lightning Magic only for Diana pushing her fellow Luna Nova student out of the way and rendered unconscious in the process. Such dishonorable act further disgusted Yūto considering the trouble he and his fellow bully caused since the second stage.

With Diana and Sorbates Academy bullies down, Akko decides to confront the witch-like apparition and asks Yūto to heal Diana, stressing that they can worry about the Crown later. She is about to blast it with her Light Magic when the witch-like apparition unexpectedly disperses into light particles. Two mysterious voices can be heard conversing with one another soon after; one sounded like a woman who may or may not the apparition itself, and another resembling Akko's own. Their conversation falters Akko because the latter expresses her desire to be a famous witch like her idol and get back on those who bullied her prompting the former questions whether she contents to do everything just for her own good once she claimed the Crown. In her moment of weakness, shards made of solidified darkness rain down upon the brunette prompting Yūto to push her out of the way and got struck instead. The shards don't physically hurt the young wizard yet he feels his strength leaving him as he berates Akko for her recklessness. The sight of their predicament worries everyone back at Luna Nova who watch from an enchanted screen, particularly Lotte and Sucy. Still, Ursula implores everyone to watch a little longer as the competition isn't over yet.

Indeed, with the realization of the second voice earlier being representation of her feelings, the determined Akko asks the apparition to speak to her once again. Assuming the likeness of Shiny Chariot, the apparition reveals that her attack earlier stripped Yūto of his magic and that the Japanese witch-in-training must concede her victory to the young wizard in order to restore him; the pressing question is what would she do next after taking up such decision. Demanding the apparition to restore Yūto, Akko sincerely acknowledges her desire to win and subsequently become a famous witch like her idol all without sacrificing her best friend's future. Impressed by her answer, the apparition's resemblance to the brunette's idol becomes increasingly apparent as she steps in to reward Akko with everything around them engulfed in bright light.

Before long, the battered Akko and Yūto find themselves returning to Luna Nova in front of everyone as the winner of the interschool competition becomes known...
