—Description of Cockatrices from Strange Notebook | ||
A Cockatrice (コカトリス Kokatorisu) is a monstrous creature that inhabits the Arcturus Forest. Their feathers contain a petrifying poison that is very valuable as an ingredient for potions.[2][3]
Description[]
Cockatrices are creatures that resembles a gigantic rooster with a snake tail and two large leathery wings that allow it to fly. Its appearance resembles their mythical counterparts albeit none of mythical cockatrices known possesses a serpentine head on the tip of their tail.
Cockatrice seemed to be aggressive but semi-sapient beast with short temper: Had anyone dare to yelled "Kutchur Katela Flala" (which means "Hey stupid, come and eat me if you want to shut me up.") in their habitat, it would provoke nearby cockatrices to devour that person.
While primarily found in Arcturus Forest, some also shown infesting Canopus Ruins, Gienah Tundra, and Mimosa Forest as revealed in Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time.
Powers and Abilities[]
Cockatrices' infamous ability is exhaling grayish gas that turns anything it touches into stone. The breath seems to be venomous in nature and short-ranged. Their feathers seemed to contain the same petrifying poison hence why Sucy wants one. However, they can alternatively breath fire which just as dangerous for having greater range not unlike dragons.[2]
Trivia[]
- Cockatrice shares great resemblance with Basilisk; mostly its serpentine/rooster theme, petrifying and poisonous breath.
- Also in myths, cockatrices are said to be hatched from chicken egg incubated by either snake or toad, which is reversal to basilisks which hatched from snake egg incubated by chicken.
- Cockatrice's portrayal as monstrous chicken-like creature with snake head at the tip of their reptilian tail is similar to that of Delicious in Dungeon version alveit a fraction of the size. It helps by Studio Trigger later adapted Delicious in Dungeon.
