—Description of Cupid Bee from Witchpedia.[1] | ||
The Cupid Bee of Love (恋のホレホレ蜂 Koi no horehore hachi)[2][3], or simply called Cupid Bee, is a species of magical bees that causes whoever it stings to fall in love with the first person they see.
Description[]
Despite its name, the Cupid Bee resembles yellow wasp with blue stripes, with an elongated body, two long legs similar to those of a cricket, two antennae and wings and a large back with a sting and a red heart in the middle.
Abilities[]
As stated previously, Cupid Bee possesses the ability to cause someone to romantically obsess over the first person they see regardless of their gender and personal preferences by stinging them; only squashing the bee responsible will break the spell.[2] The effect of its fake love-inducing ability is instantaneous and overpowering for the victim, but can be resisted if the afflicted is reminded with pressing issues they have at hand. After being reminded of his duties as the next statesman that would inherit his father's position and inspired by Akko to take his own believes into consideration instead of agreeing with every single thing Paul says, Andrew managed to push aside his fake infatuation for the Japanese as they work together to stop the Bee before it could bring the party in his manor to a lovestruck standstill.
Unlike mundane bees, Cupid Bee can sting multiple targets in a row, suggesting their sting won't detach no matter how many times they use it.
History[]
TV series[]
Bee Commotion[]
Sucy orders a poison bee in the episode, but she is mistakenly sent a Cupid Bee instead. After hearing about a party at Andrew's mansion, Akko, Lotte and Sucy sneak into the party, but just as Andrew notices them and prepares to send them out, Sucy sets lose the Cupid Bee. The bee stings both Andrew and Diana, making both of them instantly fall in love with Akko, who rushes up to them thinking they are hurt. Akko being the first person they see makes it so they fall in love with her, with even a true confession of love by Diana.
While Lotte tries to help kill the bee, four boys, including Frank, get stung and fall in love with her. Nevertheless, with Andrew's help, Akko manages to swat the bee, therefore, undoing its magic.
Trivia[]
- Coupled with its wasp-like physiology which indicated it as the side effect of being spliced with wasp genome so it could retain its sting despite using it many times (mundane bees would detach their used sting and subsequently died out as result), it's possible that Cupid Bee is an artificial species, being resulted from magical modifications not unlike Lizardmen.
